Men’s Group on Thursday Nights
The St. Matthew’s Men’s Group meets every Thursday night at 6pm in the church for evening prayer. We then typically retire to the patio to grill some meat and eat together and then around 7:30 or so begin discussion on the reading for the week. Conversation usually involves scotch and a cigar and we typically wrap up around 9 pm. We are currently finishing up the book of Exodus but have read all manner of things in the past including Flannery O’Connor, C.S. Lewis, G.K. Chesterton, The Apostolic Fathers, St. John of the Cross, Thomas Merton, The Koran, etc.
The aim of the group is to provide men an opportunity to gather in the type of environment many of us enjoy while frankly discussing important matters of life and faith. The group at present consists of 20 or so gentlemen who range in age from their late teens to retirees. It is a great place for newcomers to the church to come and get a sense of who we are and what we are about at St. Matthew’s, or for long time attendees to join into an ongoing conversation geared towards deepening both their thought and their faith.
